Hi I am Jeroen
I am a research software engineer working mainly with the R programming language.
Currently I split my time between developing R-universe (funded via R consortium) and working for the Tidyverse team at Posit, where I maintain some critical R packages and occasionally get to do some hacking on the R WebAssembly port.
Some Background
I did my PhD (2014) at the amazing UCLA dept. of statistics where I was fortunate to be surrounded by some of the brightest people I know. My advisors Jan de Leeuw and Mark Hansen have been an enourmous inspiration, and fellow students including Amelia, Mine, Neal, Andrew each went on to do great things for open source / open sciences.
Throughout gradschool I worked at Deborah Estrin’s lab on open health things, and after graduating I joined the rOpenSci group (then at UC Berkeley), where I have worked with Scott, Maelle, Karthik, Jenny, and Noam on all sorts of open source initiatives. I am also one of the authors of tidyverse and collaborated a lot with Hadley and his team.
I was employed as Assistant Researcher at UC Berkeley Until 2023. Currently I work as independent contractor and member of R consortium ISC.
